Taylor Pass Solar Project
What: Installation of a 0.85MW Solar Farm
Where: MLL Taylor Pass Depot
When: First power April 2023
A 852kW solar farm has been constructed at MLL’s Taylor Pass Depot. The plant was provided through a turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract with New Zealand based solar and battery contractor Infratec New Zealand.
The project utilises one hectare of land at the southern end of the MLL depot which was converted from equipment storage to housing north-facing fixed tilt solar arrays. Before MLL occupied the site, it had been used for landfill. This created some challenging project issues that were successfully overcome. The project allowed MLL to better utilise this land. The site is expected to generate enough energy to power around 175 homes. It uses 1,302 solar panels and feeds energy into our electrical network on Wither Road.
This project aligned with our vision of Energising Marlborough’s Future, allowed us to build key relationships, develop internal capabilities and enhance understanding in large scale solar generation. This site provides a foundation as we re-enter the generation business and progress through our solar generation pipeline.
