Marlborough Lines’ Taylor Pass Solar Farm Project Powers Ahead
Marlborough Lines is proud to announce the recent commissioning of our Taylor Pass Solar Farm, the first major project of our solar generation journey.
The 852kW solar farm has been constructed at Marlborough Lines’ Taylor Pass depot. The plant has 1,302 solar panels and is expected to generate enough energy to power 175 homes.
“We are thrilled to announce the completion of our first solar farm project, which represents a significant step towards achieving our vision to energise Marlborough’s future," says Marlborough Lines CEO Tim Cosgrove.
"By investing in renewable energy sources like solar, we are not only diversifying and strengthening our investment portfolio, but also developing local assets that will provide a commercial return and benefit the people of Marlborough.”
The project was designed and constructed by Infratec, a New Zealand renewable energy developer. The solar plant started generating electricity into MLL’s distribution network in April, after several months’ of construction planning and work.
Marlborough Lines General Manager of Engineering and Development Ray Brown says the project has proved to be a valuable learning experience, as Marlborough Lines sought to expand its renewable energy resources.
“This project allowed us to build key relationships, develop internal capabilities and enhance our understanding of larger scale solar generation. It provides a foundation as we further develop generation assets and progress through our solar generation pipeline, in line with one of our key strategic objectives.”
Marlborough Lines subsidiary Energy Marlborough is developing a portfolio of potential solar electricity generation sites, including two in South Marlborough and one in the Wairau Valley that are currently undergoing studies, consenting and business development prior to final investment decisions being made.
