Media Statement: Marlborough Lines Illuminates Blenheim for 100th Anniversary Celebration!

Blenheim, Marlborough – 10 April 2024

This weekend, Blenheim is in for a treat as the two free community events Marlborough Lines has organised to celebrate its 100th anniversary are finally here! These events are a heartfelt way to thank the community for their enduring support throughout the years.

Marlborough Energised, a spectacular light and visual event, will illuminate Pollard Park with dazzling displays, interactive elements, and vibrant colours. This free entry event takes place from April 12th to 14th, 5:00pm to 9:30pm each evening, offering a unique celebration of light and community for families and individuals of all ages. Access to the event is from Parker Street only. Parking is available at Lansdowne Park Carpark and at parking buildings in Blenheim’s CBD.

In addition to the light show, delve into the history of electricity at the Marlborough Lines Generation Museum. Located on the corner of Thomsons Ford and Old Renwick Roads, the museum will be open on April 13th and 14th, 9:00am to 3:00pm each day. Witness the remarkable 68-tonne Paxman engine, the only one of its kind still operational in the world, roar back to life during daily demonstrations held at 10:00am, 12:00pm, and 2:00pm. Some hearing protection will be provided but we recommend bringing your own.

Don't miss this opportunity to celebrate 100 years of Marlborough Lines with dazzling lights, fascinating history, and a fun-filled atmosphere!

Note: Because rain is forecast for Friday, the Marlborough Energised event may be shifted to Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evenings. A final decision will be announced on Friday morning. If the event is completely postponed, it will be rescheduled for 19-21 April. The Marlborough Lines Generation Museum Open Days will still happen this weekend.
