Woodbourne Substation Transformer Replacement

What: Replacement of two 33,000 to 11,000 volt transformers
Where:
Woodbourne Substation Old Renwick Road
When:
2024-2025
Why:
Replacement and upgrade of network assets to meet future demand

What are we doing?
Upon completion of the new 33kV switchroom, MLL have been able to remove the old outdoor structure near the front of the site, making room for a new transformer pad and a fire wall to be built. The first new Transformer has been delivered and assembled on site, and electrical work is now underway to commission this prior to Christmas 2024.

In 2025 we will decommission and remove the old transformers. This space will be cleared and another new pad will be built ready for the second transformer to be installed, tested and commissioned.

The new layout will provide better network security by having the transformers spaced further apart and a fire wall in between them.

The capacity of Woodbourne Substation will increase from 20MVA to 42.8MVA, allowing for future growth and improved network security during high-demand periods.
